Medical Microdermabrasion

More people are interested in noninvasive treatments to rejuvenate their appearance than ever before. Though cosmetic surgery can achieve dramatic transformations, many people cannot commit to the recovery time or are simply uninterested in undergoing a surgical procedure. Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive, non-chemical skin rejuvenation technique that can give you a softer, smoother, glowing complexion quickly and without any downtime. Microdermabrasion helps with fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. You’ll leave Odinet Skin Care with no downtime and a nice glow to your skin. This noninvasive treatment is performed at Kenneth Odinet MD Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as part of a Dermalinfusion treatment.

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a method of controlled physical exfoliation. During the procedure, a handheld device is used to blow jets of fine crystals against the skin to loosen dead and damaged superficial cells. Simultaneously, the device uses a suction mechanism to remove the sloughed-off skin cells as well as the crystals. This gentle exfoliation process enhances the skin’s texture and radiance while promoting cellular turnover for a firmer, more youthful-looking skin.

How Can Microdermabrasion Help My Skin?

Microdermabrasion is a safe and effective skin resurfacing treatment that can:

  • Exfoliate your skin
  • Minimize the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Lessen the appearance of stretch marks
  • Improve age spots and sun damage
  • Improve hyperpigmentation
  • Treat acne and scarring left by acne
  • Illuminate a dull complexion

Am I a Candidate for Microdermabrasion?

Most people can benefit from microdermabrasion and can safely undergo the procedure. All ages and skin types can be treated, though it may not be suitable for individuals with certain active skin conditions such as rosacea. Microdermabrasion cannot remove deep scars, birthmarks, tattoos or advanced signs of aging.

Your Microdermabrasion Treatment

Microdermabrasion is performed in our office as a step of Dermalinfusion, a highly effective skin resurfacing treatment that combines the benefits of multiple modalities in a single procedure. Dermalinfusion is the only treatment that simultaneously exfoliates, extracts and infuses the skin with professional-strength serums. There is no need for anesthesia or a topical numbing medication. Most clients experience no discomfort. The sensation of exfoliating with microdermabrasion crystals is often likened to the feeling of a cat’s rough tongue licking the skin.

Your esthetician will begin the treatment by cleansing your skin to ensure it is free of dirt and oil, and choosing a serum based on your skin concerns. They will then perform the procedure by methodically passing the state-of-the-art Dermalinfusion handpiece over your skin until the entire treatment area has been covered. By exfoliating and infusing simultaneously, Dermalinfusion ensures your skin experiences maximum penetration of the serum’s potent active ingredients. The treatment takes less than an hour to complete.

Recovery After Treatment

There is no downtime associated with microdermabrasion or Dermalinfusion. You can return to work, school, errands, or other daily activities directly after the treatment. You may experience some redness, depending on your skin’s sensitivity, but this typically resolves quickly. If you have errands to run after your appointment, we can apply mineral makeup if desired so that you can continue on with your day uninterrupted. It is important to keep your skin hydrated and wear sunscreen to protect your freshly exfoliated skin from UV damage.

Microdermabrasion Results

Your skin will look and feel rejuvenated after a single treatment. However, a series of six to eight sessions is recommended to allow for a stronger focus on the specific needs of your skin. Regular maintenance visits, or complementary aesthetic procedures such as chemical peels or laser treatments, can enhance your long-term results.
