Dealing with Vertical Lines Around the Lips

During a consultation the other day, I had a patient in her mid 50’s ask about the vertical lines around her lips. She wondered where they came from, since she never smoked a day in her life. I told her that smoking’s not the only cause. That area is one of the first to show signs of aging and can be the most challenging to treat. Gravity can cause the face to fall and the mouth area to begin to pucker or purse. Repetitive facial expressions– either from a speech therapist or a person who speaks with a lot of expression or animation, can also contribute.

There are a few ways to reduce or remove vertical lines around the lips. Pearl or Pearl Fractional treatments are very effective procedures for this area. If you don’t want the down time that is associated with Pearl, you can effectively treat the area topically with Retin A.
