Reverse Time and Restore Your Shape!
Have you noticed that your breasts have changed over time? If you have, you are not alone. Many women find their breasts begin to lose their youthful shape and firmness, affecting their body contour and their appearance. Changes can occur as the result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, age and gravity. Even heredity may be a factor. In some cases, younger women may start to experience loose, sagging breast tissue, even as early as the teen years. If your breasts are not reflecting your inner youthfulness and you are self-conscious about your appearance because of sagging breasts, Dr. Kenneth Odinet can help.
The Breast Lift Solution
Dr. Odinet performs breast lift procedures to restore the firmness and shape of your breasts. Also known as mastopexy, this surgery raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and constricting surrounding tissue to reshape and support a youthful and refreshed breast contour. A breast lift effectively addresses the following concerns:
- Loose skin that has led to drooping breasts
- Breasts that have lost their firmness after pregnancy or other events
- Breasts that are not positioned similarly on the chest wall
- Sagging breasts that give an aged appearance to the body contour
- Nipples that point downward instead of outward
Sometimes, the areola (the pigmented area surrounding the nipple) can also enlarge over time. This area can also be reduced during a breast lift to bring proportion and balance to the breasts. A breast lift is a long-lasting way of rejuvenating the female figure with an upper body profile that is uplifted, firm and more youthful. For breast lift patients that wish to regain volume, Dr. Odinet can perform breast enlargement using implants in conjunction with your breast lift to produce an optimal outcome. Patients with excessively large breasts can combine reduction with their lift to achieve a proportionate shape and size.
Should You Get a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is an appropriate procedure for women of all ages that are unhappy with the shape and positioning of their breasts. To safely undergo surgery, you need to be in good physical and mental health, with positive reasons for wanting to change your body contour. You will achieve best results if you are maintaining a stable weight and you have realistic expectations of what your outcome will be.
Rest assured Dr. Odinet will prepare you well for your breast lift, beginning with the consultation process. During this meeting, you will discuss your post-operative goals and the various options available for achieving them. Dr. Odinet will perform a physical exam and take measurements and photos to document the changes you would like to make. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about the procedure, so you know what to expect when the day of your surgery arrives.
Options in a Breast Lift
Dr. Odinet might employ different techniques during your breast lift to tailor the results to your precise goals. Incision placement for a breast lift might include:
Periareolar Incision
This incision encircles the areola, so scarring is well hidden within the pigmented area of the breast. This technique is primarily used for women that require minimal correction as the access to enhance the breast is relatively limited. Periareolar incisions are needed if the areola is going to be reduced or repositioned as a part of the breast lift process.
Lollipop Incision
This technique includes the periareolar incision and a second line down the lower portion of the breast. The lollipop is the most common choice for breast lifts, as it allows access for Dr. Odinet to perform mild to moderate correction in breast sagging. During this procedure, he can remove excess, loose skin to create a firmer shape to the breast while raising the breast to a higher position. The nipple and areola can also be adjusted if necessary.
Anchor Incision
This technique adds a horizontal incision in the breast crease to the lollipop formation, creating an anchor shape. While the incisions are more extensive with this process, it may be necessary for patients that require a substantial amount of lift and removal of excess skin.
You will discuss the right technique at your consultation, so you know what to expect from your procedure. Rest assured that no matter how extensive your incisions might be, Dr. Odinet will take great care to keep post-operative scarring hidden in natural skin folds as much as possible. His meticulous suturing techniques at the end of surgery also minimize visible scarring.
Your Breast Lift Experience
Depending on how extensive your surgery will be, Dr. Odinet will perform your breast lift on an outpatient basis at his AAAASF-accredited facility or at Park Place Hospital where you can take advantage of one of their overnight recovery suites. If you have augmentation at the same time as your lift, Dr. Odinet will use a rib lock during your surgery. This technique ensures greater comfort and a reduced need for pain medication after your operation.
Incisions are carefully placed so that Dr. Odinet can remove excess skin and create a more attractive breast contour. If the areola needs to be reduced, that can also be accomplished, as well as raising the nipple and areola to a higher position on the breast to produce a natural, proportionate appearance. Most breast lifts take between one and three hours to complete, depending on the amount of correction needed and whether additional procedures will be done at the same time.
After Your Breast Lift
Women often discover that recovery after breast surgery is quicker and more comfortable than they expect. Most are able to drive within two days after their operation and head back to work and other non-strenuous activities within three to four days. Vigorous exercise should be avoided for four to six weeks although you are encouraged to participate in gentle workouts soon after your procedure to promote a healthy healing process.
